Seminar = Course with continuous assessment! Therefore:
• Attendance is compulsory during the whole semester.
• Absence is only possible with a justified & timely excuse.
• Unexcused absence at the first meeting = deregistration.
• Any unexcused absence in the further course of the semester = negative assessment.


Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objective:
Through this seminar, students gain a fundamental understanding of various aspects concerning scientific publishing & literature research/comprehension, with a focus on Analytical Chemistry.
This can be useful, e.g., for writing the master thesis, for better understanding & assessing scientific literature, or for own publications.

Content:
• Familiarization with the scientific publication system
• Critical analysis of scientific publications
• Researching and critically assessing literature, with a focus on special AI-tools
• Practicing oral presentations & asking questions

Method:
• Presentation by the lecturer
• Discussion with the group & critical assessment of selected aspects from the area of scientific writing and publishing
• Presentation/reviewing of selected scientific publications from the field of analytical chemistry by the students + discussion with all participants
• Various small homework tasks, e.g. testing AI-tools, presenting journals, etc.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment criteria:
• Active participation (e.g. participation in discussions)
• Homework
• In case of doubt, the students may be asked to a grade-relevant final oral assessment.

Permitted aids: Will be discussed in the seminar.

• Completion of homeworks
